Robert Gibbes, Son of Stephen Gibbes Gent - & Jane his Wife was Born in Ellmerston Court in Kent - upon ye 27th of November being Sunday at twelve a Clock at Noon 1594 & was christend the 4th: of Decembr: following-- [SCGHM v. XII, p. 104] Robert GIBBES (LRPJ-CNR) and Mary COVENTRY (LCM7-Z1Q) moved their family from Kent, England to Barbados in 1648. In the "State Papers", London, 1692-3, March 1: "Lords, Proprietors to the Governor and Council of Ashley River: John Gibbes, Esqr., a Kinsman of the Duke of Albemarle designing to settle in Carolina every attention and respect is to be shown him and those accompanying him, three thousand acres of land granted him rent free."
